((May 3rd, 2020 Update))
Good morning andhappy Sunday Parents, Players and Voluenteers,

As we move forward through uncharted waters we understand everybody has a lot of questions and concerns about the status of the season, the state of the events going on in society today, the safety of our players, their families and the numerous volunteers that keep the wheels turning at OBSA. We wanted to take a moment to let you know that your voices have not fallen on deaf ears and the entire board at OBSA is working diligently with local, state and national officials to assure that we take the best and most responsible approach to handling the situation that we are all facing through the current issues related to Covid-19. Based on many different factors including the results of the previous survey and last nights board of directors meeting here is all the info to date for this season-

Our Position
The common question that we get is “Will the kids still be playing or are you issuing refunds?”. The answer to this is simple. Everybody at OBSA as a result of multiple conversations with most neighboring leagues, other sports organizations in Oakdale, Cal Ripken Babe Ruth Baseball, City of Oakdale City Manager Brian Whitemeyer, Stanislaus county health department, Oakdale Sports Association, OJUSD and other youth sports organizations in Oakdale and various cities all over the United states all feel that it is in the best interest of the players to continue with the plan to pursue a full season for 2020, WHEN it is safe to do so.

After discussions with the city and county as well as OSC the board of directors has decided it will continue to plan for a 2020 season.  Once approved to move forward by the Stanislaus Department of Health, OJUSD and the City of Oakdale we will proceed with practices and rescheduling all games for the 2020 season.

When?
Based on authorizations and confirmations from the city and OJUSD we have been confirmed for exclusive use of all the required facilities to hold a full season through the middle to end of August if needed. As a result, once given the green light, we will be getting this season rolling. This could happen anywhere between now and well…. Then

At what point would the season be cancelled?
Our drop-dead date to start the 2020 season has been set at July 1st. If we cannot start the season by then we will announce additional information at that time. (Stay Tuned)

What about refunds requests?
Refund requests are not being processed at this time.  Additional details will be discussed by the board as needed in the event of the season being cancelled.

What now?
At this moment the 2020 season is on pause as we wait for the go ahead from authorized agencies and when deemed safe for our players.

Moving forward we will be talking directly with all of the coaches directly monitoring team structure and capacity. As all uniforms have been done for some time we will be distributing all of the Jerseys etc to the coaches for distribution with instructions on how to safely distribute them to the families of the players while adhering to all social distancing and local regulations. At the same time we will be working with coaches to collect the last of the candy fundraiser funds and process them accordingly.

If there is going to be a season, what precautions is the league taking to keep my player safe?

Player safety is our #1 priority. We are currently awaiting final recommendations from the county health board as well as from Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth Baseball/Softball and we will be adhering to these recommended and required precautions once the season starts (Details Pending).

Multiple hand wash stations will be installed throughout TL Davis and Fair Oaks Facilities in addition to ramped up cleanings of rest rooms, dugouts and facilities multiple times each week and on the weekends.

Social Distancing reminder signage will be posted in all bleacher areas for parents and families coming to watch the games and on facility grounds and coaches, parents and players will be heavily encouraged to practice these measures.

Snack Shack facilities and volunteers will be required to adhere by all the same requirements and policies that need to be followed by restaurants and other food distribution organizations. Our snack shack facilities are inspected and regulated by the health department and the Department of Environmental services.

In Closing-

We understand that times are challenging for many and our goals is to give all the players of OBSA the ability to play their season, when safe, and to have fun while enjoying the sport, the camaraderie and the fun of this sport we all love.

We know that we will never be able to please everybody and there will always be concerns but the masses have spoken, and the masses want to see these kids be able to play sports this summer.

We understand that a few of you in the survey have stated the intent and prior plans to participate in other sports into the summer and fall. We have been in discussion with the other sports leagues that take place through the summer and fall seasons later in the year and many of them are looking at possible delays or other alternative choices for their seasons. We encourage you to check in with those leagues periodically for updates on the status of their season as we wouldn’t want any child to not have the opportunity to play any sports due to any misassumption of future calendar events that are delayed or even cancelled due to what is happening today.

OBSA is here and has been a formidable part of this community for so many years providing a safe, productive and fun outlet in the Oakdale and surrounding areas for over 40 years and at this time, we intend to keep things that way. We are not going anywhere, and we are in it for the long haul and for these kids. This is why we all got involved.

Till the next update be safe, stay healthy and take the time to enjoy the extended time with your families and loved ones and keep the ones affected worldwide by Covid-19 in your thoughts and prayers.

Best regards,
